Iraqi Kurdistan region president Massoud Barzani is
scheduled to appear on Tuesday before the foreign
affairs committee of the European Parliament, the
parliament has announced on its Web site.
While highlighting that Barzani's visit to
Strasbourg will take place upon an invitation by the
European Parliament, the Web site of Iraqi President
Jalal Talabani's Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK)
reported on Sunday that Barzani would inform members
of the committee about the restructuring of Iraq as
well as recent "developments in Kurdistan within
this framework."
In addition to answering questions from European
lawmakers, Barzani will also "explain his
expectations of the European Union concerning
Kurdistan," the pukmedia.com Web site also reported.
Andre Brie, German member of the European
Parliament's leftist group, and Paulo Casaca,
Portuguese member of the European Parliament's
socialist group, paid a visit to autonomous
Kurdistan region in (northern Iraq) some time ago,
pukmedia.com noted and said that Strasbourg's
invitation to Barzani was extended following the
release of a report by these lawmakers concerning
