Baghdad, -- Iraq's President is planning to
make his first visit to China, his office said
following his meeting with China's ambassador to
Iraq.
"The two sides discussed arrangements for the
expected visit by President Jalal Talabani to China
which will be the first paid by an Iraqi president
to the People's Republic of China," a statement from
the president's office said.
No date has been set for the visit.
Beijing has a major diplomatic mission in Baghdad
and has been seeking to revive oil deals it signed
with executed dictator Saddam Hussein and develop a
major field in the southeast of the country, AFP
wrote.
Talabani's office said he also discussed increasing
Chinese support for Iraq's armed forces, which are
seeking training to help them combat the insurgency. |
