Sulaimaniyah, Kurdistan region (Iraq), --
Kurdistan's region parliament will discuss pardoning
prisoners in Kurdish jails during the next session
on Tuesday, a Kurdish legislator said on Monday.
“The parliament was due to approve the decision in
the session last week but it was postponed due to
disputes on some clauses,” Dr. Nuri Talabani said.
“We hope that the parliament will approve the
decision during tomorrow’s session,” he added.
“The decision will include all prisoners, except
those involved in violent operations: murdering
foreigners in Iraq’s Kurdistan, drug dealing and
forging official documents,” legislator Arez
Abdullah said earlier.
There are 1,342 prisoners, including 113 minors and
29 women in the three jails in Iraq’s Kurdistan, in
Erbil, Sulaimaniyah and Duhuk.
Iraq's Kurdistan region enjoys a parliament away
from Baghdad's National Assembly in which they are
also represented by 55 members.
