Nechirvan Barzani Kurdistan's PM lays foundations of
IT training centre

Erbil, Kurdistan Region (Iraq) -– Prime
Minister Nechirvan Barzani today laid the foundation
of the first Information Technology Training Centre
in Erbil, the Kurdistan Region’s capital.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, the Prime Minister
said, “I am sure that upon completion this facility
will become a notable centre for our Region. Not
only will it help train our people, but it will also
help to connect our Region to the world.”
The IT Training Centre is being funded and built by
the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA),
following Prime Minister Barzani’s request to the
Korean government to support IT in Kurdistan. The
project is a result of cooperation between the KRG’s
Department of Information Technology and KOICA. |

The Prime Minister said, “We look forward to our
youth benefiting from this centre by acquiring
modern expertise as they train here. We must
encourage a culture of learning and perseverance.
Without perseverance little that is worthwhile can
be achieved. If we desire a better life, we must
work hard to attain it.” He also thanked KOICA and
all the parties involved for their support and said
that Kurdistan hopes to follow Korea’s example of
success
Botan Mahmoud Osman, Head of the Department of
Information Technology, and the son of Mahmoud
Othman, a Kurdish legislator and politician and
member of the Kurdistan National Democratic Union,
said “We are here today to set the foundation stone
for the first IT Training Centre in Erbil, which
will in return lay the foundations for the future of
information technology in the great Region of
Kurdistan. We believe that with dedication and
innovation we can develop and enhance this IT
Training Centre to provide maximum benefits for the
people of Kurdistan.”
The Information Technology Training Centre is due to
be completed in 12 months. It will provide training
for government employees, the general public, and
the private sector, and will also offer to provide
training for the federal government of Iraq. The aim
is that in the future the centre should be able to
support itself financially.
