Increasing tension on Iraqi Kurdistan-Turkish
borders
April 16, 2007
Erbil, Kurdistan region (Iraq), April 16, --
Military vigilance at Iraqi Kurdistan-Turkish
borders following Turkish raids on Kurdish villages
for three days. In result, president of Kurdistan
region Massoud Barzani called to surge Kurdish
Forces on the borders to face any emergency.
Head of Kurdistan’s Parliament Adnan Al Mofti
described Turjey’s escalation as dangerous; calling
not to rush decisions of military interference for
the consequences might complicate the situation and
threaten the people.
In the same context, a member of Kurdistan Labor
Party was killed in combat with security forces in
Eastern Turkey. |

For his part, Kurdistan Prime Minister Nechirvan
Barzani sought to ease the tension with Ankara after
head of Turkey's military General Staff Yashar
Bukyuanit called for a military interference in
Kurdistan (northern Iraq).
Barzani however adopted a softer approach. “The
Iraqi constitution has specified the road map to
solving the issue of Kirkuk. What was taken from us
by force, we will get back by democratic means”, he
said. Kurdistan’s Prime Minister added that if
Turkey is worried about the situation, they are
willing to end its fears by holding bilateral talks.
