France to open embassy in Kurdistan's
region capital

Erbil, Kurdistan region (Iraq), -- At a
meeting between Falah Mustafa, Head of KRG Foreign
Relations, and Jean-François Girault, France’s
ambassador to Iraq and his accompanying delegation,
discussions focused on the long history of relations
between Kurdistan and France.
They also talked about the current political
situation in Kurdistan and security issues in Iraq.
The French Ambassador said he looked forward to
taking the first steps towards opening a French
embassy in the near future in Hawler (Erbil), the
capital of the Kurdistan Region. The ambassador
reiterated France’s support for the Kurdistan
Region.
The head of the KRG Foreign Relation's Office stated
that the opening of the French Embassy in Hawler
would mark a turning point in relations between
France and the KRG. He said that this step would be
an important factor in improving relations between
the Kurdistan Region and other members of the
European Union.
Meanwhile, the ambassador also met with KRG Planning
Minister Osman Shwani. Both sides reaffirmed that
establishing a French embassy in Hawler would lead
to greater cooperation between France and Kurdistan.
The KRG Planning Minister also underlined the KRG’s
efforts in developing the Kurdistan Region. He hoped
that French companies would invest in the various
reconstruction projects underway in Kurdistan.
