The US’s relationship with the future Kurdistan could mirror America’s relationship with Israel  4.4.2007

April 4, 2007

If Iraq isn’t in a Civil War at the moment, as soon as the US leaves Iraq is guaranteed to fall into Civil War, or worse genocide.

Sunnis have no hope of surviving in post-US Iraq. Their only hope in a post-US Iraq is the help of the Sunni based al Qaeda terrorist group or other Sunni based nations in the area (most notably Saudi Arabia) helping the Sunnis.

It is highly unlikely that Saudi Arabia would get involved. So that leaves al Qaeda. At this point al Qaeda would have to make a decision, kill Shiite Muslims or American infidels.

The irony would be that if the US left Iraq and Qatar because there was no need for any forces in the Middle East, one of al Qaeda’s demands (that the US leave the holy lands) would be satisfied. It is possible that al Qaeda would see the Shiites as a greater threat than the US in the immediate area.

But will the US withdraw from the area entirely?

What about the Kurds? Would American troops stay behind to protect the Kurds? The Kurds are fiercely loyal to America and it would be in the America’s best interest to foster this relationship. How does the US show support for the Kurds?

When the US forces withdraw from Iraq, do they withdraw to the soon to be new state of Kurdistan? Although the Turks and Iranians may have their reservations, they won’t be able to stop the Kurds from declaring their independence from the war torn Iraq.

Leaving Iraq is irresponsible on the part of the US because of the ensuing genocide that is sure to come. But if the US was to shirk its responsibility to protect the Sunnis from the Shiites, will they also leave the Kurds side?

The US’s relationship with the future Kurdistan could mirror America’s relationship with Israel. Plenty of money and arms to survive in an exceedingly hostile neighborhood.

Although leaving Iraq may seem prudent, to lose a potential ally like Kurdistan would be short sighted.
