brotherhood and unity

Turkey : What bothers Ahmet Türk, the
president of the Democratic Society Party (DTP), is
that some people are making an effort to turn Newroz
into a day of tension. He is also concerned that
political parties engaged in jockeying over the
upcoming presidential election are trying to use the
DTP.
The New Year for many peoples throughout the Middle
East begins tomorrow with Newroz, and the president
of the Democratic Society Party (DTP), Ahmet Türk,
stressed in an exclusive interview with the Turkish
Daily News that this day should be one of freedom
and peace, ensuring the brotherhood of peoples.
Nevroz isn't just a holiday that Kurds celebrate, he
stressed, but one that is also celebrated throughout
the Middle East and the Caucasus.
“We are approaching this Newroz rationally and we
want to celebrate it rationally, said Türk. “We wish
for the brotherhood of the peoples in the Middle
East and also, our country to solve its problems
with its inner dynamics. This is the purpose of our
efforts.” |

Ahmet Turk wondered why the president of the
Motherland Party, Erkan Mumcu, calls Jalal Talabani
and Massoud and Barzani "dogs of imperialism" and
why a military official describes DTP officials as
creatures.
“Why aren't these people considered to be creating
anger and hatred inside the community?” he asked.
Ahmet Turk rightfully said that prosecutors close
their "ears to the real words of incitement and
hatred." A lot of extreme-nationalist statements
came from Turkish officials of the CHP, MHP, BBP
parties and Turkish generals. Just watch the
TV-shows of the nationalist channel Sky Turk. Why
aren't these people tried? Is it a crime to say that
most Kurds in Diyarbakir would oppose an invasion of
Iraqi-Kurdistan? It's the truth.
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on
Tuesday called on people to remain cautious against
violent provocations prior to the Newroz festival.
But most Turkish civilians don't notice that Kurdish
officials also called the Kurdish people to remain
calm.
The Kurdish mayor of Diyarbekir (Amed), Osman
Baydemir, called Newroz the symbol of peace: “Our
city, Diyarbakir have been making preparations for
Newroz. Newroz Feast that is being celebrated by all
of the nations of Middle East is very important for
our city, Diyarbakir. We are very excited for
celebrating the Newroz Feast of 2007 as a feast in
peace, fellowship and tolerance as Diyarbakir.
Newroz is the symbol of peace, fellowship and
tolerance. It is the certain feast of the citizens
of Diyarbakir who would celebrate Newroz with this
senses.”
Let's hope it will remain a festival of peace.
