Prague, Czech rep. ,-- Former Czech president
Vaclav Havel decided to join a symbolic hunger
strike in order to support a Kurdish-born doctor who
has been on trial in Czech courts since 1995,
secretary for the former Czech president, Jakub
Hladik, confirmed on Thursday.
'He wants to join in a serious manner,' Hladik said,
adding, 'But I do not know when he will start and
when he will end.'
The Kurdish doctor, who holds a German passport,
Yekta Uzunoglu, 53, was indicted in the Czech
Republic in 1994 with allegedly torturing two
compatriots.
He has denied the charges, arguing that he has
fallen victim to a plot by business competitors. |
