Zakho, Kurdistan region (Iraq), -- Twenty
three persons were arrested on Wednesday by
Kurdistan security border forces in Zakho, Duhuk
province, while trying to infiltrate to Syrian
territories, a security source said.
"Twenty three civilians were captured early
Wednesday near the Iraqi Kurdistan Bishabour
cross-point while trying to enter Syrian territories
illegally," Captain Saad Haji said.
"They are Iraqis from Mosul," he added, noting they
admitted that they were trying to enter Syria and
then to reach Europe from there.
Haji said "it was the first time that his forces
arrested persons trying to infiltrate to Syria."
Duhuk is the third province within Iraq's Kurdistan
region. It is in the far north of Iraq. It has
borders with Turkey in the north and with Syria in
the west.
