Kurdish security forces defused 3 bombs
near Sulaimaniyah

Sulaimaniyah, Kurdistan region (Iraq), --
Kurdish security forces managed to defuse three
roadside bombs that were planted on a highway in
Benjoin district, 105 km east of Sulaimaniyah
province, a Kurdistani police source said on
Tuesday.
"The roadside bombs were planted on the
Benjoin-Kokhlan highway on the border area between
Kurdistan region (Iraq) and Iran," the source, who
asked not to be named, said
"A number of armed groups from al-Qaeda network in
Iraq have planted roadside bombs that target Iraqi
border forces," he added.
An explosive charge went off on Monday in the
region, causing no damage or casualties.
Sulaimaniyah is part of Iraq's Kurdistan region. It
is a safe city compared to other Iraqi provinces.
Its population is estimated at 1 million.
