Tehran, March12 - Iranian authorities have
closed Kurdish weekly Payame Kord (Kurdish message)
and accused the magazine's editor in chief Ardeshir
Sadreddini of publishing false and biased news,
reports said Monday.
Sadreddini, who was released on bail, has also
received death threats from a militant group called
Young Revolutionaries who have accused him of
"betraying the Islamic revolution" in articles
published by the magazine, "offending religion" and
"cooperating with non governmental organizations" -
approximately the same charges pressed by
magistrates who banned the weekly.
Meanwhile a court has allowed the main Iranian
independent daily, Shargh (East), to resume
publication.
Shargh was closed last September for offending
Islam, the leader of Iran-backed Shiite group
Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, and Iranian president
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Shargh, the country's most prominent reformist
daily, was reportedly closed after it ran a cartoon
which poked fun at the country's hard-line president
and his handling of an international crisis over the
Iranian government's nuclear programme.

More about Iranian Kurdistan
The present leader of the organisation is Haji
Ahmadi. According to the Washington Times, half the
members of PEJAK are women, many of them still in
their teens, and one of the female members of the
leadership council is Gulistan Dugan, a psychology
graduate from the University of Tehran. This is due
primarily to the fact that PJAK is strongly
supportive of women's rights. PJAK believes that
women must have a strong role in government and must
be on an equal level with men in leadership
positions.
