Kurdish Women’s Rights Watch (KWRW) launches its
website
On the occasion of the International Women’s Day,
Kurdish Women’s Rights Watch (KWRW) has launched its
website:
www.kwrw.org .
KWRW was founded in June 2004 as a network of
Kurdish and non-Kurdish women and men, including
community activists, academics, lawyers as well as
legal professionals, and journalists.
It grew out of Kurdish Women’s Action against Honour
Killings (KWAHK), with the aim of monitoring and
promoting the interests of Kurdish women both in
relation to honour-based violence and in relation to
human and civil rights in general.
As a non-profit-making, non-political and
non-partisan organisation, aiming at promoting
women’s rights in the Kurdish communities in
Kurdistan and in the diaspora, KWRW is particularly
interested in training, education and development
work to help women improve their employment and
financial prospects. KWRW also plans to provide
counselling and support for women and families under
stress, especially in Kurdish areas.
KWRW also aims to monitor abuses of women’s rights,
through media reports and trial observations.
Honour-based violence continues to be one of the
main focuses of group.
The work on honour-based violence is organised
through KWAHK, which has been active since 2000 in
this area. KWAHK operates as an honour-based
violence project and as a separate section of the
new KWRW website.
Happy International Women’s Day.
