Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on
Tuesday called for a joint fight against the
outlawed Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK), local media
reported.
During a meeting with visiting Iraqi Vice President
Adel Abdul mahdi, Erdogan said that Turkey attached
importance to Iraq's security and stability and
supported Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al- Maliki's
plan aimed at ensuring public order in Baghdad.
Erdogan said that Iraq's political unity and
territorial integrity should be preserved.
The normalization process, envisaged by the
Constitution, has not been achieved in the northern
Iraqi city of Kirkuk, he said, adding that a
referendum should be delayed.
They also discussed recent developments in Iraq and
joint fight against the PKK.
For his part, al-Mahdi, who arrived here earlier in
the day for an official visit to Turkey, said that
Kirkuk is an important issue, and efforts should be
exerted to find a solution that satisfies all the
parties. |
