Members of the Peterborough Kurdish Association
signed their constitution to symbolise their status
as an established community group.
The group met at New Link, at 439 Lincoln Road,
Millfield, Peterborough, voting in committee members
before signing the document.
Celebrations with a Kurdish theme followed.
Previously, on January 3 and to tie in with the
Muslim festival of Haj, the city’s Kurdish community
had marked the auspicious event by launching the
association.
Wearing traditional dress, they gathered at
Gladstone Park Community Centre and invited English
and Pakistani residents to join in the festivities.
Representatives from the city council and police
also attended.
The idea behind the group is to foster ties and
deepen understanding between ethnic groups, boost
communication with local authorities, provide
guidance for new arrivals and preserve the Kurdish
culture and traditions.
