STATEMENT OF KURDISTAN
NATIONAL CONGRESS ON MR ‘INDEFATIGABLE’ GALLOWAY
REGARDING SADDAM HUSSEIN CRIMES
February 8, 2007
I am amazed at the worldwide response from some
quarters regarding the execution of Saddam Hussein
and his top aids. I totally understand if someone
has reservations regarding the way the executions
were carried out and also the way the trials were
conducted.
I myself share those reservations and moreover I am
against the death penalty altogether. However, as a
Kurd I have heard Saddam Hussein’s speeches, several
times through his “career”, in which he boasts
publicly regarding committing crimes against
humanity. He used phrases like “annihilating anyone
who stands in our path of marching towards our aims”
or “sending the agents of the enemy to hell” by whom
he means all his own opponents even inside his own
party and anyone else like the innocent civilians of
Halabja. |

By this I mean we do not have to go too far to prove
that this up normal guy has committed crimes against
humanity we can take his own words for it. I do not
mean that he did not need a trial, but at least he
received a half decent trial that in the
circumstances of the system of values dominant in
the Middle East at the moment was way above average.
This by itself is an unfortunate fact, but we have
to be realists and remember also that Saddam Hussein
and his likes never gave their opponents any chance
of a trial.
Saddam Hussein should be compared with Hitler in his
warmongering and crimes against humanity. So, I
would say to anyone like Mr “indefatigable”
Galloway, that they should be sued for denying
Saddam Hussein’s crimes against humanity, exactly as
those who deny the Holocaust. Indeed I am aware that
the Kurdistan National Congress and a lot of Kurds
and Iraqis who were victims of Saddam Hussein’s
regime are intending to study the matter of bringing
legal actions against Mr Galloway in particular for
not being concerned about their feelings by
comparing Saddam Hussein with Guevara and his
indirect support for crimes against humanity.
