Lebanon: Sarkis meets with delegation from Iraqi
Kurdistan

Beirut, Lebanon, -- A delegation from the
government in Iraqi Kurdistan led by Tourism
Minister Nimrud Baito visited a number of Lebanese
political and religious figures Thursday. Following
a meeting in Bkirki with Maronite Patriarch
Nasrallah Butros, the delegation headed to the
Ministry of Tourism in Beirut to meet with Minister
Joe Sarkis.
Baito said that his visit to Lebanon came after his
Lebanese counterpart sent him an invitation.
"The Lebanese are known to be leaders in the field
of tourism, so the main goal of our visit is to gain
knowledge of the Lebanese pioneer experience and try
to emulate it back in Kurdistan," Baito explained.
Baito said that he discussed with Sarkis the
possibility of sending professionals from the
Lebanese tourism sector to Kurdistan to help in
reviving the tourism sector there.
Kurdistan is a semi-autonomous region in located in
northern Iraq. Apart from his ministerial position
in the regional government Baito is also secretary
general of the Assyrian Patriotic Party.
The delegation later visited the leader of the
Lebanese Forces, Samir Geagea, at his home in
Bzummar, where they discussed recent developments in
Lebanon and Iraq.
Following the meeting Baito said that Geagea and he
exchanged wishes that both Lebanon and Iraq prosper
and be spared civil wars.
"We also had a discussion about means by which
bilateral Iraqi-Lebanese ties could be further
enhanced," the visiting minister said.
