Iraqi Kurds welcome Erdogan's statements on Kurdistan 17.2.2007

Sulaimaniyah, Kurdistan region (Iraq), February 16, -- Iraq's Kurdistan government welcomed on Friday statements made by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in which he expressed his country's readiness to develop diplomatic ties with Iraq's Kurdistan region, Kurdistan cabinet said.

"Government of Iraq's Kurdistan region welcomes the recent statement of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on his country's readiness to develop diplomatic ties with the region, considering this as a step towards solving all binding issues between the two sides", according to a statement of Iraq's Kurdistan cabinet.

"This is a positive and important move towards realizing stability and prosperity for the two nations", the statement added.

Erdogan had said on Wednesday that the Turkish government could make steps to develop relations with the Kurdish government in Kurdistan (northern Iraq).

Turkish Premier added that this would be for the good of the two nations.

Meanwhile, a number of Iraqi Kurdish parties expressed comfort about Erdogan's statements, deeming it as a step in
the right direction
