The Turkish ultra-nationalist daily "Yeniçag"
claimed Tuesday Israel plans to assassinate Iraqi
President Jalal Talabani in a move that would
establish what the paper calls "Big Israel" in the
region.
In an article titled 'They will murder Talabani',
the paper wrote "Talabani's murder will be
implemented to realize Bush's plan." The article
suggested the American plan in the Middle East
should actually be dubbed "great Israel".
The article went on to say Israel intends to help
Kurdistan region president Massoud Barzani, who has
close relations to Israel and is of Jewish ancestry,
establish an independent Kurdistan state in Northern
Iraq.
The paper charged that Jalal Talabani, who is an
Iraqi Kurd, was appointed Iraq's President in order
to be kept away from his native Northern Iraq.
The paper said the Turkish Kurd leader cooperated
closely with both Israel and the U.S. during the
occupation of Iraq.
The article suggested "Israel wants to kill Talabani
like former Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat" as
part of the "second stage of its plan."
Arafat died in 2004 after suffering from an unknown
illness that had been variously described as the
flu, a stomach virus or gallstones. He sought
medical treatment in Paris and was hospitalized with
what Palestinian officials said was a blood
disorder.

According to Hawlati Kurdish newspaper issued in
Kurdistan region, on June 6, 2006, sixty-five per
cent of Iraqi Kurds think that diplomatic relations
between the Kurdistan Regional Government and Israel
are "necessary."
Of (1,519 people polled in Iraqi Kurdistan,) 22 per
cent said it was not necessary for the two states to
have relations, while 12 per cent responded that
they did not have an opinion.
Those Kurds who believed that the Kurdistan Regional
Government and Israel should have relations cited
the possible strengthening of the Kurds' position in
the region, Israel's democracy, trade (between the
two states,) the existence of Kurds in Israel and
that some Arab countries have relations with Israel.
The Kurdistan Institute for Political Inquiries
conducted the poll May 22 and May 27 in the
provinces of Erbil, Sulaimaniyah, Duhok and Kurdish
inhabited areas of Kirkuk.
