Sanandaj (Sina), Iranian Kurdistan, --
Four people were hurt when a percussion grenade
exploded on Saturday in the Kurdish city of Sanandaj,
capital of Iran's restive western Kurdistan
province, the Fars news agency reported.
"The blast, which happened in front of Iran
Insurance Company, broke windows in some houses and
shops and injured four people," Fars said, adding
the explosion took place around midday.
Eyewitnesses told Fars the explosion happened in a
motorcycle park and an unnamed police source said
the explosions was caused by a percussion grenade
placed on a motorbike.
Kurdistan province has a substantial Kurdish
population. The area has seen clashes between Iran's
security forces and the Iran's Kurdish separatists
of PEJAK (Party of Free Life of Kurdistan).
On November 25, Iranian intelligence agents arrested
11 PJAK members,www.ekurd.net
who it said were behind
several bomb attacks and had set alight and attacked
a police station in Sanandaj. PEJAK has been behind
a string of deadly attacks in northwestern Iran (Iranian Kurdistan) in
recent months.
Since 2004 PEJAK took up arms for self-rule in the
country's mainly Kurdistan province northwestern of
Iran. Half the members of PEJAK are women.
Iran has repeatedly accused the United States of
seeking to stir up ethnic unrest by giving material
support to the PJAK and outlawed rebel groups in
other sensitive border regions.

The present leader of the organisation is Haji
Ahmadi. According to the Washington Times, half the
members of PEJAK are women, many of them still in
their teens, and one of the female members of the
leadership council is Gulistan Dugan, a psychology
graduate from the University of Tehran. This is due
primarily to the fact that PEJAK is strongly
supportive of women's rights. PEJAK believes that
women must have a strong role in government and must
be on an equal level with men in leadership
positions.
