Delegation Iraqi Kurdistan to head to Iran  7.12.2007

Erbil-Hewler, Kurdistan region 'Iraq', -- The Secretary General of Kurdistan Toilers' party said on Friday that a highly commissioned delegation representing a number of Kurdistan parties supreme Council is to leave Erbil, the Iraqi Kurdistan's capital, on Friday for the Iranian capital Tehran to discuss bolstering the relations between Iraq's Kurdistan region and Iran .

"A highly commissioned delegation of Kurdish parties is to head into Teheran in a step to bolster the political and economic ties between the Kurdistan region and Iran", Qadir Aziz said.

Aziz added the delegation members "are representing the two key Kurdish parties (the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and the Kurdistan Democratic Party), the Kurdistan Islamic Union party, the Islamic League, the Communist party, Kurdistan Toilers' party and Kurdistan Socialist party."

The ties between Iraq's Kurdistan region and Iran saw tension after U.S. forces detained an Iranian accused of having links with the Iranian Al-Quds Corps in Sulaimaniyah last September.
www.ekurd.net The Iranians denied the accusation describing the detainee as a civil servant, from the Iranian province of Kirmanshah, who was on an official visit in Sulaimaniyah in an official business delegation.

The Iranian authorities closed off all the border crossings with Kurdistan region in the wake of the detention for weeks, sending up the prices of many Iranian imports.
