Menace & the Looming Turkish Invasion of Kurdistan.

DALLAS, Texas, Bakhtiar Dargali, (ekurd.net),
-- The entire Kurdish Community in North Texas
launched a peaceful demonstration at Houston and
Young St. on the Ferris Plaza Grounds in Downtown
Dallas, on Saturday, to denounce the recent Turkish
aggressive actions and the possible full scale war
by Turkey on the only stable part of Iraq
(Kurdistan). Kurds the largest population in the
world without a distinct nation-state
We, members of the several thousand Kurdish-American
strong Kurdish community in North Texas, strongly
condemn the Turkish threat to invade Kurdistan, Iraq
and threaten the relative peace and stability in the
safest area in Iraq.
Mr. Masoud Barzani President of Kurdistan Region
declared that any move by the Turkish troops into
Kurdish territory would be a declaration of war.
Turkey will create major instability and possible
warfare if it uses its grievances with the Turkey's
Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) to challenge the
growing stability, prosperity and non-violence in
the Kurdistan region that is now benefiting the
Iraqi Kurds, Turkey and the United State.
Turkey ought to follow warnings by the United
States, Iraq and other countries in Europe and
elsewhere that are pressing Turkey to refrain from
cross-border military operations. A Turkish military
campaign at this time will destabilize one of the
few stable areas in Iraq. The US-led coalition has
the overall responsibility of protecting Iraq under
a UN resolution but it remains to be seen to what
extent the United States will adhere to its
commitment to protect the Iraqi Kurds from a
possible incursion by Turkey.
The Turkish President, Mr. Erdogan is due to meet
President Bush on November 5, We urge President Bush
and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to condemn
the Turkish military build-up and to warn Turkey of
the destructive consequences of an incursion into
Kurdistan for Turkey and Iraq as well as other
Middle Eastern countries.
The Kurdistan regional government (KRG) issued a
statement on October 17th after the decision of the
Turkish Parliament to grant a one-year authorization
for the Turkish army to conduct military operations
in the Kurdistan Region in Iraq against the PKK “the
KRG seeks no conflict with Turkey. We do not and
will not allow our territory to be used by anyone to
attack or undermine Turkey or any of our neighbors.
We do not interfere in the internal affairs of
Turkey, and we expect the same in return.
The KRG considers good relations with Turkey a top
priority. The Turkish people are our friends and
neighbors with whom we have much in common. Turkish
trade and investment have been instrumental in our
region's economic growth. Any problems or
disagreements between the KRG and Turkey should be
solved through diplomacy and dialogue. The KRG
welcomes direct dialogue with Ankara on all issues
of common interest or concern, including the PKK. An
incursion would be detrimental to Kurdistan, all
Iraq, to Turkey and the Middle East. “ |
