Kurdistan's Political prisoners association chief escapes assassination bid  21.11.2007

SULAIMANIYAH, Kurdistan Region 'Iraq', -- The head of Kurdistan's Political Prisoners Association survived an attempt on his life in Sulaimaniyah on Wednesday morning, the deputy chief of the association said.

"Ahmed Mam Rasoul survived an assassination attempt when an explosive charge attached to his car blew up while he was starting it this morning in front of his house in Sulaimaniyah's Ranya district ," Omar Mahmoud said.
 
Rasoul was slightly injured in the leg and is in a stable condition, Mahmoud added.

The association, established after the 1991 popular uprising, includes prisoners held by the former Iraqi regime.

Meanwhile, US-Iraqi joint forces executed raids in Ba'ath neighborhood, southern Kirkuk, early this morning. During the daylight raid, the forces arrested a fugitive, two suspected terrorists and confiscated a rifle.

Erbil, the capital city of Iraq's Kurdistan province, lies 349 km northeast of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, while Sulaimaniyah, Kurdistan's cultural capital lies 364 northeast of Baghdad.
