Call for papers for international
conference on genocide in Kurdistan

Erbil-Hewler, Kurdistan region 'Iraq' -- The
Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), under the
supervision of Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani,
announces an international conference on genocide on
26 - 28 January 2008 at Erbil Convention Centre. The
aim of the conference is to investigate and
publicise the genocide of the Kurds. The conference
organising committee calls for papers from academics
and experts in this area, the themes and criteria
are explained below. The deadline for submissions is
2 January 2008.
Objectives
- Obtaining international recognition for Anfal as a
crime of genocide.
- Documenting the genocide against the Kurds.
- Compensating survivors and victims' families.
- Gaining support from international institutions
and organisations.
Main topics
- Genocide against the Kurds from legal
perspectives.
- The social and psychological consequences of
genocide against the Kurds.
- The economic consequences of genocide.
- The demographic dimension of genocide.
- Prosecution of those accused of taking part in
Anfal.
- Mechanisms and methods used in genocide in
Kurdistan
- Genocide against other peoples.
- Archiving and documenting genocide in Kurdistan.
- Future of a people subjected to genocide. |

Research criteria and submission instructions
- Any Masters or Doctoral thesis or any other
academic research related to genocide can be
submitted for consideration.
- The research must be in either Kurdish, Arabic or
English.
- The piece should not be more than 15 pages in
length, and its outline no more than one page.
- Two hard copies as well as a CD version should be
submitted
- The submission should be preferably in Tahoma
font.
- The title and headings’ font size should be 15
point, and the content 14 point.
- 2.5cm space should be allowed on all four sides of
the pages.
- Submitted papers are subject to evaluation.
- The accepted papers will be printed and
distributed during the conference.
- The completed 'participation form' will be
attached to the submitted paper.
- The organising committee of the conference will
pay travel and hotel expenses for all researchers.
