Kurdistan parliament's Speaker Adnan Mufti discussed
with the Arab Inter-parliamentary Union Secretary
General Nour El-Din Boushkoug the recent
preparations for holding the Arab parliaments
meeting in Erbil next year, al-Mufti's media advisor
said on Thursday.
"Mufti discussed with the Arab Inter-parliamentary
Union Secretary General Nour El-Din Boushkoug on
Wednesday night in the Kurdish parliament's seat the
recent preparations to hold the Arab parliaments
meeting in Erbil, the capital of Kurdistan region,
next year," Tareq Gohar said.
"The meeting was attended by senior Kurdish
officials as well as a number of experts and
advisers," he added.
For his part, Adnan Mufti said "holding the meeting
Erbil is very important to update the Arab
parliaments with the stability, security and
prosperity in Iraq's Kurdistan region."

The Arab Inter-parliamentary Union (AIPU) is an Arab
parliamentary organization composed of parliamentary
groups representing Arab Parliaments. It was born in
the wake of the October war of 1974, as a result of
the atmosphere of Arab solidarity and Arab joint
action, which encouraged Arab cooperation through
political, professional and other institutions.
The Iraqi Kurdistan parliament, chaired by Dr. Adnan
Mufti, is composed of two main groups: the Green
Bloc of Iraqi President Jalal Talabani's Patriotic
Union of Kurdistan (PUK), which has 44 out of a
total 111 seats, and Iraqi Kurdistan President
Barzani's Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), which
also has 44 seats, in addition to other blocs and
parties.

Arab Inter-parliamentary Union (AIPU) Secretary
General Nour El-Din Boushkouj on Thursday morning
expressed support for the Iraqi people, noting that
preserving Iraq's borders were essential for the
Arab World.
In his word at the Kurdistan parliament with the
presence of the speakers of the Iraqi and Kurdish
parliaments, Boushkouj said that "the (AIPU)
supports the Iraqi people by all means ... and
respecting Iraq's borders is an essential issue for
the Arab world."
"We discussed with Iraqi officials the recent
preparations for holding the 10th edition of the
Arab parliaments conference in Erbil, which
represents a historic turning point in Arab
relations," Boushkouj said.
"The scheduled Arab meeting will be held in Erbil by
the end of next February or early March and chaired
by Speaker of the Iraqi parliament Mahmoud al-Mashhadani,"
he also said.

For his part, al-Mashhadani said that "Iraq will be
honored to play a host to the Arab conference, to be
held in Erbil, the second capital of Iraq."
Tareq Johar, a media Advisor for Kurdish
parliament's speaker, had said earlier that the
Speaker Adnan Mufti discussed with the Arab
Inter-parliamentary Union Secretary General Nour
El-Din Boushkouj the recent preparations for holding
the Arab parliaments meeting in Erbil next year.
