Erbil-Hewler, Kurdistan region 'Iraq' --
Kurdish sources report a cholera outbreak that has
affected 15 elementary school students in the city
of Shahrazur in the Kurdish province of
Sulaimaniyah.
The Kurdish Patriotic Union claimed that "new cases
of cholera registered in the last few days, could
mean the return of the disease on a wide scale."
The students, suffering from vomit and dysentery
were immediately transferred to the main hospital in
Sulaimaniyah. |

The school director has claimed that "the school was
founded in 1978 and it has never been renovated, not
even the water pipes."
Schools in Sulaimaniyah had asked the regional
government of Kurdistan's education minister to
delay the beginning of the school year, fearing a
spreading of the virus among students. But the
ministry insisted on opening the schools on the
scheduled date after promising to renew the pipes
carrying safe drinking water to the schools.
