Sanandaj, Iranian Kurdistan, -- Two Iranians,
Kiumars and Nader Mohammadi have been hanged in
Iran's northwestern Kurdistan province, authorities
announced on Friday.
The two young men's families were told that they
were buried in the cemetery of Behesht Mohammed in
the city of Sanandaj, about 500 kilometres from the
capital Tehran.
The families were asked not to organise any public
ceremony of remembrance to avoid these turning into
an anti-regime protest.
Kiumars and Mohammadi were hanged on Wednesday -
World Day Against the Death Penalty.
In 2006 Iran carried out the second highest number
of death sentences, most of them by hanging. It was
surpassed only by Iran.
Excluding the hangings of Kiumars and Mohammadi, 265
executions took place in Iran between October 2006
and the end of September 2007.

The present leader of the organisation is Haji
Ahmadi. According to the Washington Times, half the
members of PEJAK are women, many of them still in
their teens, and one of the female members of the
leadership council is Gulistan Dugan, a psychology
graduate from the University of Tehran. This is due
primarily to the fact that PEJAK is strongly
supportive of women's rights. PEJAK believes that
women must have a strong role in government and must
be on an equal level with men in leadership
positions.
