What Right Does the Turkish Parliament have To Send Its Own Army, to Shell, and Launch Attacks on the Sovereignty of Iraq, and the Kurdistan Regional Government? Is Not This Invasion is a Breach of the International Law?

October 29, 2007

Sydney, Dana Berzinjy, (eKurd.net), -- There is a conflict between the Turkish Army and the Turkish Government in Turkey. The Army Generals want to control the power of the Government and the people of Turkey. On Wednesday 17th October 2007, the Turkish Parliament has decided to send its troops to Kurdistan of Iraq to wipe out the Kurdish Freedom Fighters from the Mountains of Qandil. I believe the Turkish Parliament should have acted wisely and in a modern way to solve the conflict between the Army and the Turkish Government on one hand and between the PKK and the Turkish Government on the other. But unfortunately, the Turkish Parliament acted strangely and in a foolish way, without been able to solve the dispute between them.

Dana Berzinjy

The question of the Kurdish issue has been going on for centuries, but none of the previous Turkish Government was able to solve this issue. They always try to avoid the dialogue between the Kurdish representatives, and the Turkish Government. They have always blamed the Kurdish representatives as separatists, without trying to tackle, and solve the dispute in a radical way. They have always avoided granting the rights of the other nationalities in Turkey, and their rights were denied. The recent conflict between the Turkish government, and PKK freedom fighters started in 1984, it’s not a new issue, just came up yesterday, but the Turkish parliament always acted in a naive way and followed the footprints of their infamous former Dictator Ata-Turk. They think in an old fashioned way, and still they believe every nation has to be a slave, and serve their collapsed former Othman Empire. They have no respect whatsoever for the other nationalities that have been living in Turkey thousands of years before their arrival. The Turkish Parliament should have acted in a democratic way and not dictate the people of Turkey. Why the Turkish history in 21st of century has to repeat itself over and over? May be because Turkish Government does not believe in change and democracy.

During World War I, the Turkish Othman Empire genocide and massacre over 1,500,000 Armenian Citizens and 700,000 Kurds, and launched attacks on civilians and destroyed thousands of villages, country towns and cities in Turkey. They are recently condemned by the International Community for the massacre, which had done against Armenians; especially by the USA Congress in their assembly recognized the massacre of the Armenians was genocide. This is a great success for the Armenian people, and for the whole entire humanity. This is the best decision has ever done by the USA Congress, people in the World look at American Government as a model of democracy. The suppressed people in the world such as the Kurdish, Armenians, Assyrians, and Sudanese, former Yugoslavia, Burmese and other nationalities are expecting more from the USA to judge at the things fairly, and without discrimination. This is also should be a duty of the United Nation to follow injustice in the past, and in recent century, in the World. The United Nation should not keep quiet at the genocide like Armenians, and the Kurds. This is shame on the UN.

I want to say this decision is a brave decision by the US Congress, and everybody supports this great decision against in justice in the past and the violation of the civilians by the Othman Empire in 1915. The Turkish Parliament should have done something in a good manner in regard to the recognition of the Armenian genocide by the US, and the Turkish Parliament should have pushed the Turkish government to apologies to the Armenians and the World for the massacre. But unfortunately, instead, the Turkish government is going to make another huge mistake against the Iraqi Kurds, and the Kurds that live in Turkey, by bombarding the villagers on the border. The Turkish Government wants to add another dark and racist page into their dark and infamous history. Is it not shame on the Turkish parliament to abuse the rights of its own citizens, and attack on the sovereignty of Iraq? By doing this, the Turkish government is going to breach the International law (Articles 41 and 42 of the UN), and they should be liable for any damages and for their crimes against the Kurdish villagers. Do the Kurdish people have no rights to defense themselves against the Turkish Barbarian assaults? The Turkish Army since 1984 has launched hundreds of assaults against Kurdish civilians and against Kurdish Freedom Fighters. The Kurdish people in Turkey have asked the government thousand times to find a solution to their demands, but always their demands for their rights, for instance, democracy, freedom of culture, and language barriers, have been put under the blanket. They are always blamed for breaking up the sovereignty of the Turkish state.

If the Turkish parliament is so keen to keep the country united, why don’t they believe in the rights of Armenians, Assyrians, Arabs, Kurds and even Turks? The Turkish Parliament knows very well that the Turkish government had been united together under enormous force and power by the former dictator Ata-Turk, and all the Governments that have ruled in Turkey. I believe the other nationalities in Turkey do not want to live together any more, under the Turkish oppressor to face genocide by the racist government of Turkey. The infamous genocide against the Armenian in 1915 is a clear example that proves my argument. All the nationalities in Turkey have seen and gone through, torture, capture and genocide. What about the Kurdish genocide in the same year as Armenians as the result more than 700,000 Kurds slaughtered by the Turks. What about the genocide that the Turkish Army committed in 1990 against the Kurdish people, at the consequences of the imposed war against the Kurdish homeland in Southeastern Turkey (North Kurdistan), more than 3000 villages ruined, and flattened with the ground? Is not the Turkish Government is responsible and should pay a good price for its actions?

This is the Turkish democratic government of Turkey, and wants to join the European Union. And how? I believe the Turkish government is very naïve, and can not hide all the crimes, for so long under a blanket, so a day will come, sooner or later. I am sure they will have to pay a good price for their actions. I think even the Turkish citizens of Turkey are not happy with this racist policy, and the constitution’s of Turkey, because the Parliament does not try to solve the conflict between all the nationalities in peaceful way. The parliament itself creates division and racist between Kurds, Turks and other minority citizens in Turkey. The Turkish State of Terror needs to change and amend the Turkish racist Constitution. Where is the International Court and what is the United Nation doing? The rights of the biggest nation without a state in the World have been denied and ignored for so long!

If Turkey has a right to protect its territory against any attack from the PKK and the PKK as well has a right to defend the Kurdish homeland, and its own troops against the attacks of the Turkish Army. Whatever, it takes to stop these barbarian attacks. We know the Turkish Government, and the parliament do not protect the Kurdish people from the Turkish Nazi Parties, and the humiliation of the Army. In reality the Turkish government does not represent the Kurdish people, and the Turkish government is against the wishes of the Kurdish people, which is democracy. Kurds want to represent themselves as a Kurdish nation not as Turkish Kurds. The Turkish government should learn from the experiences of other nationalities, for example, the former Yugoslavia, and Russia. These countries split up into independent countries, even not into states within a Federal Government. If Turkey is worried about the unity of Turkey, the Turkish Government should give rights to the Kurdish people to have its own state, within the Federation of Turkey, and create a government to have a (Federation System) FD, by doing this, Turkey stays united and does not split and will get rid of violence among its citizens. The World has got so many examples such as, the Australian Federation Government. It has six states and two territories, each state and territory has got its own parliament, ministers, and its own capital. I want to tell the Turkish parliament, our system of federation and democracy is the best example in the World. Even our population is 22,000,000, million comparison to Turkey which is almost 70, 000.000 million people. What is wrong with this system? Why the Turkish State of terror, so stubborn, and does not learn from the rest of the World? The power of one nation government is called dictatorship government, that is now old fashioned and does not serve the interests of all the nationalities that live in Turkey. This power needs to be split and be shared among the all citizens in Turkey.

The European Union, on the other hand, blames Turkey for undertaking violence against PKK and the Kurdish nation. I want to say that the Turkish State of Terror knows the government of Iraqi Kurdistan well, and is not responsible for whatever happens between the PKK, the Kurdish Freedom Fighters, and the Turkish Government, because PKK has been in Turkey since its creation in 1970. It’s also some of the PKK, Kurdish Freedom Fighters have been in Qandil Mountains, and other areas since 1984, during the former Iraqi executed Dictator Saddam Hussein. If the Turkish Government is that brave, why did it not ask the former Iraqi Dictator about PKK issues in the past? Or Turkey thinks that Iraq has not got a strong Army, and can not fight back and this is a good opportunity for the Turkish Army to invade Iraq. Regional Government (KRG) does not give shelter to the PKK Kurdish Freedom Fighters, and this is wrong allegation by the Turkish State of Terror. The PKK is just an excuse that Turkey uses against the wishes of the Iraqi Kurds, and against the Democratic Federal of Iraq

Iraq and Iraqi Kurdistan have all the rights to claim the sovereignty of their country, if Turkey assumes that Iraq has no control over remote parts of land where the PKK Freedom Fighters are hiding, Turkey is mistaken, because PKK fighters, are not hiding in Iraqi Kurdistan, and they are mobile fighters, and move from one place to another place. They are in fight with the Turkish Army in the province of Hakari and the other cities in Kurdish region in Turkey. It’s easier for Turkey to capture their leaders like how they caught Mr. Ocalan in the past, and then they can settle their differences in Turkey not in Iraqi Kurdistan. Yes, Turkey asks the Kurdish, and the Iraqi leaders then the United Stated of America to capture the PKK leaders. If they are so easy to be captured, why the Turkish Government is not going to do it? Why another country have to do the job for Turkey? Do the PKK Freedom Fighters part of the Turkish internal political problem, or Iraq? The answer is not Iraq’s problem. I think Turkey is wrong, because Turkey itself is part of the problem too not Iraq or USA. Turkish Parliament instead to give illegal power to the Turkish Army to invade Iraq, they should have grant the rights of democracy and freedom to the Kurdish nation whose been struggling hard, and bitterly for centuries in order to save themselves, from the hands of Turkish Governments.

Turkey needs to think twice for peace and stability of Turkey, and the region instead of going far inside Kurdistan of Iraq to attack PKK, and to abuse the rights of the Iraqi Kurds. The Kurdish Freedom Fighters are not going to wait for the Turkish Government to capture them, and they can easily go and slip into Turkey. The Turkish government should move to integrate Kurdish community in the political system in a better way to give a better chance, and attract the PKK to participate to build a true democratic state of Turkey, not just the name, and exclude 25 million Kurdish citizens from their rights. Turkey needs to release the PKK founder Mr. Abdullah Ocalan from a life sentence in a Turkish prison, and forgive him for what happened in the past between the Turkish Government, and the PKK Freedom Fighters. Turkish conspiracy to capture him in Kenya in 1999, made the PKK, and the Kurdish nation agitated by inhuman behavior by the Turkish Army members against their leader. They should have come into an agreement instead. The Turkish Government recently has blamed the Kurdish Regional Government by getting aid from Israel, but the Turkish government soon forgot the support of the USA, and the Israeli Intelligent Services in capturing Mr. Ocalan in 1999. Everybody knows who gets support from Israel. Which country in the Middle East has got treaty signed between Israel and Turkey? The Turkish Government should have learned from the stories of the famous South African leader Mr. Nelson Mandela, which was released after 27 years in prison. Then, afterward the country united firmly on the bases of brotherhood between the dark skin people, and the Whites.

I remember the PKK leader Mr. Ocalan announced for peace from his prison on Imrali Island in the Sea of Marmara, and told PKK Freedom Fighters to cease violence and seek political solution in regard to Kurdish problems in Turkey. But, the Turkish Government did not pay attention critically. The party was also changed its name from PKK to the Kurdistan Freedom and Democracy Congress, and then to Knogra-Gel later on, and politically it was a good sign in terms of the ideological change that took place in the party, but it was ignored by the Turkish government. So the Turkish Government did not take positive steps to grab the opportunity to get into peace process. I know that Turkey has lost thousands people in the conflict with PKK and lost billions of $US in the war, in the worthless war in the south-east Kurdish region in the country since 1984. Kurds and Turks are victims of the wrong policy, and constitution of the Turkish Racist Government. The Turkish barbarian Army destroyed thousands of Kurdish villages and the Kurdish people lost Billions of US Dollars in the war, which is a thousand times more than the loss from the Turkish side. But, the Kurdish rights are still not recognized, except a few changes. The power in Turkey is in the hands of Army generals, so that’s why the Parliament could not avoid these losses.

It is Turkish primarily responsibility to stop the conflict and violence instantly in Turkey, and the government needs to give its strength, and power back to the people of Turkey. The parliament needs to pass an Act of law to grant protection to the PKK fighters who fight the Turkish Government in the mountains, villages, country towns and all the cities in (North of Kurdistan), Southeastern Turkey, and grant immensity to the PKK fighters because it is much better for the benefit of Turkey, than to give approval to launch a war against the Kurdish Freedom Fighters. The Turkish Government and its leaders can not achieve victory except the defeat as they have seen it previously by launching aggressive behavior, and war against the Kurds, and Iraqis. Only peace can give the Turkish Government, and the Parliament to be accepted by the entire world, and if they could free Mr. Abdullah Ocalan and permit the exiled villagers to get back safely to their villages and cities.

The World became a global village through media and the new technology. The entire World is looking at the Turkish P.M. Erdogan to see if he is able to show the World that they have achieved peace, freedom and democracy for both the Kurdish and the Turkish nations in the Middle East.Kurdish Freedom Fighters PKK has offered Turkey a conditional ceasefire on Monday 22nd 2007, and they want to bring peace to all the parties in Turkey, according to the website by the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK). They are asking for a diplomatic solution and to get away from violence. Turkey should give the fighters a chance, but Turkey has never given a chance for peace. This is an excellent opportunity for the Turkish Government and it’s Military to end attacks against the Kurdish Freedom Fighters, and Turkish Government should not drive out this opportunity to get into negotiation in order to achieve peace, and victory for all citizens in Turkey. Turkey needs to grant freedom of political work, culture, identity rights, for all nationalities in Turkey, and keep away from a strategy of an invasion into Iraq's Kurdistan, and threaten its neighbors or export its own problem, and breach the International Laws.

Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan, came to Iraq, and met the Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, on Tuesday 23rd of October 2007, at the Iraqi ministry of foreign affairs in Baghdad, and met the Iraqi President Jalal Talabani, also a Kurd, and Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki. But unfortunately, the Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan on Tuesday rejected a conditional cease fire offered from the Turkey's Kurdish PKK, Freedom Fighters (Kurdistan Workers' Party), and he said that Ankara does not deal with a "terror" group. Babacan’s comments were not encouraging and said “a ceasefire should be reached between two countries or two armies but not with a terror group”. Babacan said rebel attacks left 42 people dead alone this month. Cease-fires are "possible between states and regular forces," Babacan said. "The problem here is that we're dealing with a terrorist organization." I want to tell the Turkish Foreign Minister, that is not true, and your excuse is not acceptable, by International Community, because peace agreement can be done between any parties in any time. If you look at the experiences of other countries in the World, for instance Sudan, and former Yugoslavia, they were not in different countries or different Armies, they were living within their border countries, and finally, they came into peace agreement, and they were granted freedom. Eventually, they formed their own states and Parliaments, even the former Yugoslavia split into different states, and they are now enjoying their freedom. I believe what you said in your statement in Baghdad is a very old fashioned way to ignore the rights of the entire Kurdish nation in Turkey, on the bases of Terrorism. If your government has offered peace, and the PKK has refused, and did not accept the offer, you can say they are terrorist. But in this case, I believe that the Turkish Government is a state of Terror not the Kurds. You believe in the Ideology of dictatorship and autocracy. The PKK statement said the rebels had repeatedly ceased fire in the past, but the fighters are always attacked by the Turkish Army, and the government. Where is the promise of the Prime Minister Mr. Erdogan, which he said last week, in the statement in the Turkish Parliament, that PKK fighters should solve their problem in the Turkish Parliament, but if this is the case. Why did you break your promise? Why did your government refuse the ceasefire, which was offered by the PKK fighters, in order to get in to the opportunity of the peace process?
