Turkey: Iraqi ethnic groups gather in
summit in Ankara - Turkish source

ANKARA, January 10, -- A Well-informed source
in the Turkish Foreign Ministry said Wednesday a
summit, which includes all ethnic groups in Iraq,
would be held here on January 16.
Anadolu Agency (AA) said that according to remarks
from Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and several
Turkish officials saying that the deteriorating
situation in Iraq can not continue on with any
intervention.
The Summit would host different Iraqi ethnic groups
such as Arab, Kurds, and Turkmen in addition to
Sunni and Shiite representatives, the source
indicated.
It also said that the meeting would focus on Iraqi
national unity as well as the means to combat of
terrorism and added that it would also discuss the
peace efforts by Iraqi's neighboring states.
Turkey's Chief of intelligence Agency, Emre Taner
said during the 80th anniversary for the Agency that
Turkey can not stand still towards the Iraqi
situation.

The use of the term "Kurdistan" is vigorously
rejected due to its alleged political implications
by the Republic of Turkey, which does not recognize
the existence of a "Turkish Kurdistan"
Southeast Turkey. The Kurds have no rights in
Turkey.
Others estimate as many as 40 million Kurds live in
Big Kurdistan (Iraq, Turkey, Syria, Iran, Armenia),
which covers an area as big as France, about half of
all Kurds which estimate to 20 million live in
Turkey.
The Kurdish flag flown officially in Iraqi Kurdistan but
unofficially flown by Kurds in Armenia. The flag is
banned in Iran, Syria, and Turkey where flying it is
a criminal offence"
