Kurdistan Alliance List asks Baghdad to reprimand
Turkey
Kurdistan Alliance List at the Iraqi Council of
Representatives in Baghdad asked the Iraqi National
Assembly to rebuke Ankara for trying to interfere in
Iraq's internal affairs.
The request came within a statement by the List,
which also states that if Turkey continues its
current attitude, the Iraqi government should
immediately freeze its economic and diplomatic ties
with Turkey.
Turkey is also using conferences with titles such as
supporting Iraq and its people and similar
gatherings to interfere in the internal business of
the Iraqi government, according to the statement.
Article 140 Committee returns; Compensates
displaced families
Article 140 Committee held its 11th meeting in the
Iraqi capital of Baghdad last week.
The committee has been given the responsibility of
normalizing the situation in areas that suffered
from the former Iraqi regime's Arabization campaign
by implementing Article 140 as per the guidelines
outlined in the constitution.
The intention of the meeting was to discuss the
mechanisms of carrying out the latest resolution by
the Iraqi federal government that was issued last
September.
The resolution aims at returning all government
employees who were displaced between August 17,
1968, and April 9, 2003, for political, ethnical, or
religious reasons to their original employers if
possible, or find them new jobs in locations near
where they currently reside.
Two steps the committee intends to take are
compensating displaced families with a piece of land
that the government provides in their places of
origin; or compensating displaced families with
financial assistance by giving them a cash sum of 5
million Iraqi dinars. Families displaced from Kirkuk
governorate will be entitled to receive 10 million
Iraqi dinars.
The committee will also take care of property
disputes that resulted from the former Iraqi
regime's policy of demographic change and will
resolve the disputes by March 15, 2007.
