KRG Minister: No Peshmarga to go to Baghdad
A predominantly Kurdish battalion in Iraqi Army
started moving to Baghdad where its members will
undergo military training before taking part in a
major security plan that aims to pacify the Iraqi
capital.
Kurdistan Regional Government's Minister of Region
for Peshmarga Affairs, Jafar Sheikh Mustafa, told
the local media last week that the 3rd Division from
the 4th Battalion of the Iraqi New Army stationed in
Kurdistan Region would go to Baghdad to take part in
the new central government security plan in and
around Baghdad.
The Minister said there was no relation between the
soldiers going to Baghdad with the troops of
Kurdistan Peshmarga Forces, and that no troop from
Kurdistan Peshmarga Forces is to be deployed in
Baghdad. Kurdistan Region Deputy Commander of Chief,
Mustafa Said Qadir, also confirmed the statements by
the Minister, adding that Kurdistan Peshmarga Forces
are completely different from the Iraqi New Army
units stationed in the north.
