Sulaimaniyah, Kurdistan Region (Iraq),--
Kurdistan minister of electricity on Wednesday said
$40 million were allocated to renovate the dams of
Dukan and Derbendekhan in the Kurdistan autonomous
region as part of a $600 million loan from the World
Bank to Iraq for service projects.
"Kurdistan was given $85 million of the Iraqi loan
and $40 million of that share were allocated to
renovate Dukan and Derbendekhan and dams which are
the main water storing dams in Kurdistan," Hoshyar
Siobli said.
The World Bank has promised to provide additional
funding if the project needed, he said.
The two dams are the only power-generating source in
Kurdistan Region (Iraq)
