MOSCOW , -- The director of a Russian
construction company has been kidnapped in Iraq,
where he had travelled to discuss building a hotel,
NTV television reported on Tuesday.
Petr Makaykin, 44, had traveled to Sulaimaniyah in
Iraq's northern Kurdistan region in October 2006 to
negotiate on the construction of a hotel with a
local businessman, and has not returned home.
Makaykin's wife Svetlana accused the Iraqi
businessman of being behind the kidnapping, saying
he called her to demand $150,000 for her husband's
release.
She has appealed for help to the US authorities, who
have promised to launch an investigation.
