Massoud Barzani refuses to involve in Iran-US conflict 23.1.2007

Erbil, Kurdistan region (Iraq), -- President of Iraqi Kurdistan Region Massoud Barzani stressed his refusal to be side at recent conflict between Washington and Tehran considered at the same time that arrest five Iranians in Erbil not suitable and expected action, statement of Region Presidency said.

It added that Barzani said to Iranian Ambassador in Baghdad Hassan Qummi that Kurdistan is the only place which didn’t  witness intervention of neighboring states and Region's sovereignty sacred for Kurds and shouldn’t be violated by anyone.

Worth mentioned that US forces arrested before more than 10 days 5 Iranians at breaking in to a building in Erbil, which regional authorities stressed that it Iranian agency related to Iraqi Government.

The U.S. military said last week that five Iranians held by its troops in Iraq are linked to Revolutionary Guards who are arming and funding Iraqi militants but Tehran called them diplomats and demanded they be released.

One of five Iranians arrested by US forces in Kurdistan-Iraq last week is the suspected leader of a commando team that assassinated three Iranian Kurds in Vienna in 1989, Austrian public radio has reported.

Austria's Oe1 radio said on January 17 that one of the arrested Iranians is Mohammad Jafari-Sahroudi, implicated in the assassination of Dr. Abdul Rahman Ghassemlou (Qasimlo), the head of the Kurdish Democratic Party of Iran (KDPI), his assistant and another Kurdish exile.
