European Parliament delegation visits

Erbil, Kurdistan
region (Iraq), January 6, -- A delegation from the
European Parliament on Thursday visited the Iraqi
Kurdistan Parliament in the capital of Erbil,
Kurdistan (northern Iraq) to exchange views on the
latest developments in the country and to strengthen
relations between the two parliaments.
According to the report of Iraqi Kurdish Zagros TV,
which is affiliated to Iraqi Kurdistan region
President Massoud Barzani, EP delegation met
Parliament Speaker Kemal Kerkuki, in move to boost
relations and coordination between the two
parliaments.
Following the meeting, Kerkuki stated that they
expressed Iraqi Kurds' concerns over the Iraqi Study
Group's suggestion, in its report, to postpone the
referendum to be held to determine the final status
of oil-rich city of Kirkuk this year.
He also said that they want to benefit from the
experience of the EP to raise the standards of the
Iraqi Kurdish Parliament to an international level.
"The visit by the EP delegation was also a unique
opportunity for us to introduce our region, to
improve the education system in the country and to
boost academic studies in Iraqi universities," he
added.
