It’s first introduction on the world screen was on
the
Kurdish film festival. The film was shot in two
days, back in 2005. But now, everybody who missed
the movie, can see it online. Not too long from now
it will also be available on DVD.
Delalo is the latest film by the Kurdish female
director Beri Shalmashi who won young writer of the
year awards in 2001 and 2002 in the Netherlands. She
also writes columns for the Dutch news website
Azady.nl.
The film is a portrait of a Kurdish refugee, Azad,
who now lives in Holland. He has escaped the
oppression of his homeland but is still haunted by
memories of it. Can he finally move on? |

Delalo’s rough cut has been shown on Roj TV twice
and Beri Shalmashi, the creator of the movie, was
interviewed on Roj TV by Hesen Qazi. According to
the creator of the movie, it’s the first Kurdish
film available online.
Beri Shalmashi also would like to receive feedback.
"Comments on the short film are welcome, negative as
well as positive," she declared on tuesday.
“Delalo” was an experiment and is based on Naser
Rezazi’s song “Delalo”. According to Beri Shalmashi
“partly the poem and the film carry out the same
statement, or at least feeling”. She was inspired by
her first journey back home.
“Visiting Kurdistan really enlightened my life. It
filled my heart with stories and a very strong will
of telling the world about Kurd-involved
situations.”
The movie can also be seen on
Google Video- 10 minutes.
