Syria,
September 5 ,-- Three Kurdish opposition parties
called for a demonstration against the trial of 49
Kurds in the higher court of Syria in Damascus. The
trial will take place on 7th September.
The Yekiti Party, Azadi and the Movement of Future
in Syria asked the Syrian population to demonstrate
against this "non-democratic act".
The Kurds were held in custody by the Syrian
authorities since 5 July 2005. They were arrested
after they demonstrated against the murder of the
Kurdish religious leader Sheikh Muhammad Ma'shooq
al-Khaznawi. The Kurdish religious leader was
abducted in Damascus on the 10th of May. He died due
to extreme torture. The Kurdish population holds the
Syrian government responsible for this crime.
The Syrian regime has repressed the biggest ethnic
minority for many years. In the recent years many
Kurds were arrested and ended up in prison.
