Hawlati Newspaper Threatened by KDP Official
(Hawlati)
Senior KDP member, Sarbast Tarwanshy, threatened the
Hawlati newspaper on a Radio Nawa show after his
name appeared on a list of alleged spies published
in Halwati.
He insisted that even if he wasn't able to mount a
legal action against the paper, he would find some
way to take revenge. Hawlati has urged the Kurdish
authorities to intervene in the matter.
(Hawlati is and
independent newspaper issued weekly in Sulaimaniyah.)
Talanani Warns Neighboring Countries
(Asharq al-Awsat)
Iraqi president Jalal Talabani warned that Iraq
could create trouble for its neighbours if they did
not stop interfering in Iraq’s internal affairs. He
said Iraq would lose its patience with Syria and
Iran if they did not stop meddling.
Talabani added that Iraq can do what neighbouring
countries are doing in the country. “
We can support the opposition in other countries..
in Iran and Syria, but we don't do that because our
policy is not to interfere in other countries,” he
said.

Asharq al-Awsat, a pro-Saudi independent paper, is
issued daily.)
UN Questions Change of Saddam Trial Judge
(Azzaman)
Iraqi minister of human rights, Wijdan Salim, has
told Azzaman that an ongoing human rights conference
organised by the United Nations in Geneva asked the
Iraqi government to explain why the Saddam trial's
chief judge has been replaced and why defence
lawyers were excluded from court after they
protested over the sacking.
Meanwhile, the ministry has uncovered evidence that
Iraqi detainees are being tortured in prison by
militia members and police officers. Thirty-three
police officers have lately been put on trial for
abusing prisoners.

Azzaman is issued daily by Saad al-Bazaz.)
Turkey Accused of Bombing Iraqi Kurdistan
(Al-Sabah al-Jadeed)
Eyewitnesses said that the Turkish forces have
intensified their military operations inside Iraqi
Kurdistan.
They have bombed the outskirts of the villages of
Nizdoor, Kashan and Alush, close to the town of
Zakho on the border with Turkey.
A Kashan resident said 30 shells landed in the
village causing some locals to flee. The residents
of the border villages called on the Iraqi Kurdistan
authorities to try to stop the Turkish army
artillery bombardment.

is an independent daily paper.)
