Two former politburo members of the Patriotic Union
of Kurdistan, Omar Abdullah Maruf (also known as
Mulazim Omar) and Qadir Haji Ali, have pledged to
mount legal actions against Saddam Hussein-era
agents whose names have been published as having
spied on them.
The surveillance relates to the period after 1991,

for agents linked to the Baath regime.

Turkish Delegation to Arrives to Look at Kirkuk
Situation (Azzaman)
A Turkish parliamentary delegation led by Turhan
Comez has arrived in Kurdistan (northern Iraq) to
look at the situation in Kirkuk. Ankara is concerned

Tuz Khurmatu, which both have Turkoman communities,
and will submit a detailed report to the Turkish
parliament.

British Kill Al-Qaeda Figure in Basra
(Asharq al-Awsat)
British forces killed a senior al-Qaeda senior
figure on September 25, a UK military spokesman
said. The spokesman said Omar al-Faruq died after
the house in which he was hiding out in Basra was
surrounded by about 250 British soldiers. Al-Faruq,
accused of leading al-Qaeda in Southeast Asia, was
arrested by the Indonesian authorities in 2002. He
fled from a US detention facility at the Baghram
airbase in Afghanistan a year ago.

Constitutional Change Mechanism Agreed
(Al-Sabah al-Jadeed)
On September 25, speaker Mahmud al-Mashhadani told
parliament that four blocs had reached agreement on
setting up a committee to draft constitutional
amendments. The 27 members will be drawn from the
United Iraqi Alliance, the Kurdistan Alliance, the
Iraqi bloc and the Iraqi Accord Front. The Sunni
National Dialogue front rejected the plan and walked
out of the meeting where the blocs discussed the
issue, and also left the parliamentary session.
Parliament also reached an agreement on the issue of
federal regions, which should come into effect 18
months after it is formally approved, under the
terms of Article 118 of the Iraqi constitution.
