PKK urges civilians to evacuate (Aso)
A PKK official has told Aso that Turkey is planning to attack its bases in Qandil and has asked civilians to evacuate the area. Azad Wasu Hassan, the head of Zharawa town, said the PKK had on several occasions spread such news and frightened people, "We don't say there is no danger, but the PKK want to entrench themselves in this area.
" Two wings of the PKK have urged the Kurdish people and their political parties to take a stand against Turkish and Iranian artillery shelling Iraqi Kurdish border areas.
(Aso is a Sulaimaniyah-based independent newspaper published three days a week.)

Probe into prisoner's death

The Kurdish justice ministry has received a report by a special investigation committee into the suspicious death of a prisoner.
The prisoner, Ismail Ahmed Hassan, who has been arrested because of alleged links to Ansar al-Islam, was found to have torture marks and signs of beatings. The investigative committee also discovered that Hassan had been detained without an order from a judge.
The prisoner's family are taking legal action against the authorities over his death in custody.

Maliki: no civil war in Iraq

Prime Minister Maliki said that Iraq would not slip into civil war because its people are strongly united. In a meeting with tribal leaders and clerics in Mosul, he urged local authority leaders to identify rebuilding projects that needed government funds, so as to boost reconstruction efforts and eliminate unemployment.
