Swedish party protests about demo arrests (Hawlati)
The Swedish Left Party has criticised the Kurdish government over the arrest of participants in demonstrations across the region. In a letter to the authorities, which Hawlati has obtained a copy of, the party defends the right to demonstrate. It also points out that several of those arrested were party members.

More electricity cuts in September

Chenar Khafaf, director of Kurdistan Electricity Ministry, has said that power supplies will be further limited from September 1 in Iraqi Kurdistan. Hoshyar Siwaily, Iraqi Kurdistan’s minister of electricity, is meanwhile in Baghdad to try to increase supplies from the capital to the region. Khafaf said Baghdad had agreed to supply 160 mega watts of energy on a daily basis, but it is currently only half that amount and sometimes just a quarter.

Big political conference planned

The National Accord Front leader Adnan al-Dulaimi has spoken of plans to hold a conference for Iraq's political parties in September, which he said would be the cornerstone of the national reconciliation initiative.

Barzani: Reconciliation plan should not be at the expense of the Kurds

The presidency of Kurdistan region has stressed that the Kurds should not lose out as a result of the national reconciliation plan.
President Masood Barzani has said that the Kurdish leadership supported Prime Minister Maliki's initiative to resolve the political and security crisis, but warned that the constitution should not be amended in the process at the expense of the Kurds. He added that those involved in the political process should accept the constitution that all Iraqis agreed on.
