Swedish party protests about demo arrests
(Hawlati)
The Swedish Left Party has criticised the Kurdish
government over the arrest of participants in
demonstrations across the region. In a letter to the
authorities, which Hawlati has obtained a copy of,
the party defends the right to demonstrate. It also
points out that several of those arrested were party
members.
(Hawlati is
issued weekly by the Ranj Print House.)
More electricity cuts in September
(Kuridstani Nwe)
Chenar Khafaf, director of Kurdistan Electricity
Ministry, has said that power supplies will be
further limited from September 1 in Iraqi Kurdistan.
Hoshyar Siwaily, Iraqi Kurdistan’s minister of
electricity, is meanwhile in Baghdad to try to
increase supplies from the capital to the region.
Khafaf said Baghdad had agreed to supply 160 mega
watts of energy on a daily basis, but it is
currently only half that amount and sometimes just a
quarter.

is issued daily by the Patriotic Union of
Kurdistan.)
Big political conference planned
(Al-taakhi)
The National Accord Front leader Adnan al-Dulaimi
has spoken of plans to hold a conference for Iraq's
political parties in September, which he said would
be the cornerstone of the national reconciliation
initiative.
(Al-Taakhi is
issued daily by the Kurdistan Democratic Party.)
Barzani: Reconciliation plan should not be at the
expense of the Kurds
(Azzaman)
The presidency of Kurdistan region has stressed that
the Kurds should not lose out as a result of the
national reconciliation plan.
President Masood Barzani has said that the Kurdish
leadership supported Prime Minister Maliki's
initiative to resolve the political and security
crisis, but warned that the constitution should not
be amended in the process at the expense of the
Kurds. He added that those involved in the political
process should accept the constitution that all
Iraqis agreed on.
(London-based
Azzaman is issued daily by Saad al-Bazaz.)
