Drug Arrests In Iraqi Kurdistan (Hawlati)
Sulaimaniyah, Kurdistan-Iraq
Police have uncovered eight drug trafficking rings in the past two months in Iraqi Kurdistan, according to the Drugs Eradication Directorate. A source told Hawlati that large amounts of drugs were uncovered in six of the eight raids.
(Hawlati is an independent newspaper issued weekly in Sulaimaniyah.)

Patriarch in Kurdistan capital

Iraqi Industry Minister received a senior delegation of Assyrian Eastern Church at Amman Airport.

Mar Dankha the forth Patriarch of Assyrian Eastern Church arrived at Hewler (Erbil) International airport with a delegation on an official visit to Kurdistan and was received by Sidad Barzani representing President, Sarkis Agha Jan Minister of Finance and Sheikh Mohammad Shakali, Minister of Endowments and Religious affairs. Fawzi Hariri, Iraqi Industry Minister, also received a senior delegation of Assyrian Eastern Church at Amman Airport who has been officially invited by Massoud Barzani.

Discussion of Elimination of computer illiterates

Kurdistan Ministry of Education hopes to eradicate computer illiteracy through the region.

KRG Minister of Education Dilshad Abdulrahman the Iraq-Bulgaria trade delegation has held talks on possible strategies to eradicate computer illiteracy in Kurdistan.

During the meeting the delegation explained that the aim of their visit was to organise a computer training session for the ICDL certificate. Specifically, they hope to supervise the computers and teaching methods. They also undertook to help train government staff in using the computers and promised to offer seats and funding for students to study in universities in Bulgaria. Commenting on the meeting, Abdulrathman was positive, announcing that "this agreement will be officially approved in near future in order to improve knowledge of computer science throughout Kurdistan Region".

Peshmarga Forces Officially Recognized as Kurdistan Peace and Security Forces

The official name of the force will be changed from the 'Kurdistan Peshmarga Force' to 'The Kurdistan Peace and Security Force'.

Regional President Massoud Barzani and his deputy Kosrat Rasul held a meeting with the deputy chief of Kurdistan Peshmarga Forces, the Minster of Peshmarga, and the Regional Minister for Peshmarga Affairs in the Salahaddin resort to officially reassign the responsibility of protecting the security of Kurdistan to the Peshmarga 'militia'. Also present at the meeting were a number of top-ranking military officers from Coalition Forces.

Another issue was the official name of the force which will be changed from the 'Kurdistan Peshmarga Force' to 'The Kurdistan Peace and Security Force'. The change of the title is to be implemented following procedures outlined by the Central government in Baghdad with the coordination of the Regional Government.

Koya and Bilkent Universities Sign protocols in Ankara

The president of Koya University met with the head of the Bilkent University in Ankara to sign an academic agreement between the two universities.

According to reports on Kurdish Television, the president of Koya University Khidir Masoum, who is currently visiting Turkey, met with the president and deputy of the Bilkent University in Ankara to sign an academic agreement between the two universities.

Among the items agreed upon in the meeting is one for a delegation from Bilkent University to visit Koya University in April 2007 to test potential students who would be interested in pursing their higher education in Bilkent. The visit will also establish academic relations between the two universities. In related news it was also announced that a group of students from the English and Turkish Language Departments at Koya will to visit Bilkent next year to improve their language sills and participate in academic conferences to be held at there..‎
