Kurdish students fear return to Iraqi
universities
The Kurdish students studying in Baghdad University
are threatening not to return to their studies.
A large number of Kurdish students studying in
universities in Baghdad and Baquba are threatening
not to return to their studies unless they are
transfered to universities in Kurdistan.
The reasons behind this revolt are cited as the
awful security conditions in these regions. The
students, mainly from Baghdad, Baqouba, Khanaqin,
Kalar, but also other cities in Kurdistan, say they
do not wish to return to their universities to study
in the new school year. Ahmad Kareem is a resident
of Khanaqin and a student of Yermouk University in
Baqouba told Kurdistan Online.
Illegally imported goods returned to Iran
Kurdish officials in the border town of Haji Omaran,
have returned eggs and water smuggled into the
Kurdistan Region from Iran. The 165 cartons of eggs
and 10 tons of drinking water had been transported
over the Kurdistan-Iranian border by lorry drivers.
"The reason for sending the water back was that it
was four months past its best before end date," a
Kurdish official explained. The import of eggs and
chickens from Iran is banned.
Visa machines arrive in Erbil

These machines will be operating in Kurdistan for
the first time and are one of the most modern
machines in world. Anyone in Kurdistan will be able
to obtain the visa card and use it to withdraw money
wherever he desires.
Reports indicate that there will be four machines,
one each in the Erbil and Sulaimaniyah branch of the
Trade Bank of Iraq, and in the Erbil and
Sulaimaniyah International airports. The source
further added that there were plans to install a
machine in Dohuk'.
These machines will be able to dispense $500 daily
and customers of the new service will be able to
withdraw money anywhere in the world. The cards
issued for use with the new Visa machines will also
be able to be used on the Internet.
Government employee salary reform
Erbil , Kurdistan-Iraq
Iraqi Minister of Finance Bayan Jabber has announced
plans for a new salary system for government
employees.
"A committee to create this new system will be
established under the leadership of Barham Salih
[Iraqi deputy prime minister] and ministers from the
Iraqi Ministry of Finance and Planning," Jabber
said.
