Ankawa-Efraz road construction delayed
Ankawa , Erbil
Delays on the Ankawa-Efraz road construction project
are being blamed on the fuel crisis in the Kurdistan
Region.
The road, costing 4,622,130,000 Iraqi dinars out of
the KRG's budget, is to be 20 km long and is
currently in its execution phase. The fuel crisis is
being blamed for the delay of many projects lately
in the Kurdistan Region.
Discoverers of mass graves fall ill
Halabja , Kurdistan
Khdir Karim Muhammed, Chief of Halabja Municipality,
reported that workers found a mass grave in 2004
containing an unknown number of bodies.
About two months after the discovery, one of the
workers died due to an unknown disease. And now, two
years following, three other workers have developed
an allergy-like, life-threatening illness.
Iran to supply electricity to Haji Omran
Haji Omran , Kurdistan
Last week a Kurdistan Regional Government delegation
signed an agreement with the Iranian government to
supply Haji Omran district in the Kurdistan Region
with electricity.
Heading the delegation, Herish Hussein Hassan
stated: ?the meeting resulted in closer economic and
trade ties between the Kurdistan Region and the
Islamic Republic of Iran.?
Initially, only Haji Omran?s tax office will be
provided with electricity. However, eventually this
will be increased to 400 homes in the district.
KRG projects for rural development
Development projects have been implemented in
several villages across the Kurdistan Region, to the
value of one billion Iraqi Dinars. A school has been
built in Hamza village, whilst Bamarne?s residents
are enjoying a new sports yard.
The villages of Ble and Sheikh Mama now have two
water wells, as well as store rooms and a room
designated for an electricity generator.
Projects to improve electricity supply have been
completed in Ghlbishe and Hasan Birke, and
generators set up in Arze and Kela Shekhoy. Main
roads have also been reconstructed in Sherte,
Ghlbishe, Kanika and Warmle.
Four arrested at Erbil airport
Erbil Internationl Airport , Kurdistan
Erbil International Airport passport control office
has revealed the arrest of four passengers, three
from Baghdad and one from Zakho, charged with
possessing fake passports.
In the last eight months, 170 people have been
arrested by airport security. 85% were Arabs, and
the rest Kurds,? passport control officer Raed
Ramadan stated.
It is believed that many Arabs are attempting to use
fake passports to escape the violence of central and
southern Iraq.
