BAGHDAD, September 11, -- Ali Hassan Al-Majeed
known as "Chemical Ali" before the court Monday
denied hitting Kurdistan villages with chemical
weapons, which was the substance of the testimony of
an Iraqi woman who addressed the court before him.
Having called her "sister" as he denied the purport
of her testimony, the witness told the court she is
to file another case against "chemical Ali"
considering his address "offensive". She requested
the court to take procedures to handle the new case.
The witness added the Iraqis called regions seized
by the Peshmergas as "freed territory".
For his part, ousted Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein
protested to the court over the decision by
Kurdistan to bring down the Iraqi flag at state
institutions. |

The lead witness in the Anfal trial said "The
current flag, hoisted behind you, Judge, was passed
down to us from our predecessors.
My only addition was the phrase 'Allah Akbar'." The
judge ordered all microphones off and reporters in
the courtroom were unable to hear the rest of the
argument on this point, which lasted for several
minutes.
It was noted that a partial map of Iraq, crescent
shaped, that highlighted Kurdish territories hit in
the Anfal campaigns was displayed. The areas are
along the borders with Iran in Kurdistan (the
northern Kurdish part of Iraq).
