Sulaimaniyah, Kurdistan-Iraq, -- Iraq's
northern Kurdistan administration on Thursday
executed 10 "terrorists" sentenced to death for
taking part in beheadings and bombings, a Kurdish
security official said.
"According to a judicial decision, 10 Islamic
terrorists of the group led by Sheikh Zhana Abdel
Karim Barzinji were executed "Hanged" today in
Kurdistan capital of Erbil," the official said on
condition of anonymity.
Sheikh Zana and his infamous Zana cell were found
guilty of murdering, as a court in Erbil ruled,
"innocent young people in an inhuman and brutal
manner". Kurdish authorities said, after capturing
Zana, that his cell was dismantled.
Barzinji, a Kurd, was one of the 10 who were
convicted in March of leading a cell linked to the
militant Islamist group Ansar al-Sunna.
Barzinji, 36, was a graduate in mechanical
engineering.
"The court had passed this sentence in March this
year. Their execution was carried out today in Erbil,"
the official added. |
