KRG delegates highlight Kurdistan at
Poland Economic Forum

,-- A group of Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG)
delegates two weeks ago showcased the Kurdistan
Region’s strong economic prospects and political
strides at the16th annual Economic Forum in Krynica,
Poland.
The Economic Forum, known as the ‘Davos of the
East’, drew political and business leaders from
across Central and Eastern Europe.
In a special panel about the Kurdistan Region, Mr
Ziyad Raoof, the KRG Representative to Poland,
outlined the new cabinet’s program of openness,
accountability and greater efficiency.
Mr Ziyad Raoof said that the KRG welcomes Polish
companies wishing to start investments in Kurdistan
and facilitates their work.
He added, “In May this year during their first visit
to Kurdistan, Polish company representatives signed
an agreement with the KRG defining the scope of
co-operation in agriculture, construction, health
and industry, including building electricity power
stations.”
During the panel discussion, Dr. Zeki Fattah, the
KRG’s economic advisor, set out the Kurdistan
Region’s new investment law and the prospects for
oil exploration.
Also Dr Anwar Abdullah, the KRG’s sustainable
development advisor, described the government’s
strategy for transforming Kurdistan’s agriculture
into a highly productive and sustainable sector of
the economy.
The Kurdistan Region’s official participation in the
forum was represented by its flag, which was
displayed both inside and outside the building where
the panel was held.
During the Forum the KRG delegates held a meeting
with Polish business people interested in economic
cooperation.
Mr Raoof hosted a banquet attended by over 200
participants of the Economic Forum.
The guests tasted traditional Kurdish cuisine,
listened to Kurdish music and enjoyed the colourful
Kurdish dress worn by the staff.
The 16th Economic Forum took place from 6th to 9th
September, attracting guests from over 60 countries
in Europe, Asia and America.
Each year it gathers Polish and foreign political,
business, non-governmental and economic
representatives.
