Erbil, Kurdistan
Region -Iraq, September 28,-– At least 10,000
foreign workers arrived in Iraq's Kurdistan region
over the current year either under contracts with
the region government or to work with the local and
foreign companies there, the region interior
ministry said on Wednesday.
"From January 2006, the number of foreign workers
who arrived and applied for temporary residence in
Iraq's Kurdistan region was 10452," Colonel Yadgar
Mohammed Faraj, of Kurdistan interior ministry said.
The Travel and Residence department in the region
grants a foreign worker an extendable temporary
residence of three months on condition the hiring
company offered guarantor for the worker, Faraj
said.
"The second half of the year witnessed an increase
in the workers and experts arriving in Kurdistan
region from Turkey, Iran, Syria, Lebanon, southeast
Asia, U.S. and Europe,” the source added.
Colonel Farj attributed the increase that occurred
after June 2006 to the adoption of the Investment
Law by Iraq's Kurdistan government.
