Turkish shelling sets fire to natural
forests in Kurdistan-Iraq

Kurdistan-Iraq, September 23, -– Turkish shelling
set fire to natural forests in Kani Masi area in
Iraqi Kurdistan province of Duhok on the borders
with Turkey, Iraq's Kurdistan police said on
Saturday.
"The authorities in Iraq's Kurdistan did not succeed
to put out the fire due to the difficult topography
of the area," a police source said.
Eyewitnesses said that the area came under a Turkish
artillery shelling which resulted in setting fire to
a large area of natural forests.
Hakim Omar, 33, said :" On Friday 10:00 pm ,22
artillery shells from the Turkish side fell on
natural forests only 500 meters from Biktar village
."
The shelling did not result in casualties but it led
villagers to leave their homes, the eyewitness
added.
