Baghdad,
September 14, – Iraqi flag burning by Kurds
demonstrators in Erbil city (Kurdistan Region) does
not serve the Iraqi national reconciliation, an
Iraqi parliamentarian said on Wednesday.
"We heard that some Kurdish protestors burned
yesterday Iraqi flag in Erbil city and we believe
that such a move does not serve the national unity
and reconciliation plan and further implies
political meanings that would come contrary to the
Iraqis' interests," legislator Dhafer al-'Ani, of
Iraqi Accordance Front said.
'Ani called upon the government of Iraq's Kurdistan
region to prevent such "irresponsible conducts which
might do harm to the Iraqi national unity."
"The central government is urged to take punitive
measures against those who did harm to the national
unity as this flag is still the national flag of
Iraq. It is illogical to allow directing an offense
to one of our symbols," said the parliamentarian.
Kurdish protestors in Erbil burnt Iraqi flag only
days after President of Iraq's Kurdistan Massoud
Barazani ordered to
lower the present
Iraqi national flag from top of governmental
buildings in Kurdistan.
